Writer Kathleen Tighe at Project 21 points to the disturbing witness of seeing the hour plus video released last week that shows guns drawn among law enforcement officers in the hallway of Robb Elementary School on May 24 when 21 people were murdered. The lack of action, the paralysis of the police make it a hard video to watch even though the sound of children screaming has been erased. Kathleen’s essay draws a line from the decision that Emmett Till’s mother made — that of letting people witness his mutilated body in an open casket — after his brutal murder in August of 1955, to the Parkland videos released in a Florida court last week, to the Texas video.
We who see these images and hear these sounds bear witness to the injustices that continue to plague our culture.
