It’s almost September. Kids are headed back to school. Legislators will soon pony up to their desks in Michigan’s Senate where 31 gun safety bills didn’t even make it out of committee last year.
Today’s letter to my senator, Dan Lauwers, asks him to at least look at the legislation and vote it up or down. Here’s what else I said:
At least DO something that will show that you are concerned about the epidemic of gun violence and are willing to consider change.
I’m asking on behalf of four high school kids from Oxford — Tate, Hana, Madisyn, and Justin — and this one little girl from Texas, Makenna.
Makenna Lee Elrod, pictured in this post, was ten and was one of the 19 kids gunned down at school. Let’s remember those kids who died as school starts. And let’s realize that thousands of kids returning to school have survived gun violence and now deal with the trauma of their memories.
